About Us

My name is Emma and I am the creator and owner of A Sense of Joy.

I've been lucky enough to be blessed with two beautiful girls Poppy and Mia, who are my inspiration for creating this business.

I usually work with kinder-aged children with additional needs, but living in Melbourne and having to endure lockdown due to COVID, I found myself out of work and stuck within the confines of my home!

This business idea arose for a couple of reasons - one, I missed my work and the simple act of watching kinder children explore and imagine and play. And two, I was required to spend the time at home to build on my personal development until we could return to work. So my girls and I started experimenting with lots of different sensory recipes - playdough, rice, beans, pasta - you name it! We had so much fun doing this, that we started to discuss a business concept - and I finally found the confidence I needed to launch A Sense of Joy!

Sensory play opens so many possibilities for little ones, such as:

  • Development of fine and gross motor skills
  • Vocabulary and language development
  • Concentration
  • Therapeutic properties, can help calm anxious or frustrated children

I have crafted these kits with a fundamental purpose - to inspire busy families and instil the notion that play is learning. Each kit has been lovingly designed and constructed with loose parts and nature-inspired materials, ready for your little ones to explore. Your little ones will make their own decisions on how to use or explore a particular object, material or scenario. Through open-ended play, your little ones will be able to enhance all areas of their learning.  Each child will use the same material in different ways countless times, making these kits versatile and a key part of your child’s learning journey.

I have created these kits based on my belief in the magic of play. I really hope you enjoy these kits as much as I have enjoyed creating them for your little ones.

I appreciate the support from all my customers and can’t wait to see what amazing creations your little ones create.
